Happy Anniversary Steve and Kim!

Steve and Kim were married on October 11, 2009 at Elliston Vineyards in Sunol, CA.  I honestly feel that Kim was a wedding planner in a former life and I knew from the moment I met her that we were a perfect fit!  Every detail of her wedding was so well thought out, from the Vermont chocolate favors (Steve is from Vermont), to the sweet lavender heart wreath hanging on the tree leading up to the ceremony, to the “fortune” bouquet of lottery tickets and good luck charms which strategically broke apart as it was tossed so that each girl got something.  (I must give partial credit for that idea to her DJ, Kevin from Fantasy Sound!)

Weekend Crafting Inspiration: Yarn Wrapped Bottles

I’ve missed a few weeks of my Weekend Crafting Inspiration (sorry about that), but I’m hopefully making it up to you with this super easy, super fun craft idea!  I found this tutorial for yarn wrapped bottles on Wedding Chicks.  I decided it was a must-do because 1) the bottles are too cute, 2) I can always use a few more bud vases and 3) I go through a yarn-buying phase, where I think I have time to pick up knitting again, at least once a year.  So…I have yarn coming out of my ears!

My “365 Days of Gratitude Project” on Instagram

This past July, I celebrated my 39th birthday (I know, yikes!) and I decided to honor the last year of my thirties by starting a gratitude project that I had seen on Pinterest.  This is something I’ve wanted to do for a while now; I just needed to create the time.

For the project, I’m using my Instagram account to take a picture of something I’m grateful for each day for an entire year.   When I first saw the idea, I knew it would be a good way to force myself to take a step back and say thank you on a daily basis, since I truly believe that when you show gratitude for the abundance of greatness that’s already in your life, you just draw more of the same into your experiences.  Plus I just like the idea of having a collection of pictures that represent all the things I love the most at the end of the year.  Maybe I’ll do a book…

Weekend Crafting Inspiration: Fabric Flower Pins

Ever have a project that starts off so easy and ends with a frustrated crafter about to go out of her mind?  That was the last couple days for me!  Earlier this week, I started playing with some fabric scraps I had lying around and was inspired to make fabric flowers.  I found this tutorial from Lil Blue Boo for a fabric flower headband and stayed up far too late making just the flowers!  (So much fun!)

Weekend Crafting Inspiration: Rope Monograms or Words

The weekend is here (hooray!) so it’s time for some more weekend crafting inspiration.  I found this project almost a year ago on Green Wedding Shoes (see original post here).  As with last week’s project on paper baskets, this one is also versatile and can apply to weddings and events, or just to every day life.  You’ll notice that I modified the original tutorial somewhat by making a monogram instead of rope words.  I did this mostly because I love monograms, especially for weddings.  I feel like they’re a symbol of the family that you’re building and they fit perfectly in your home after the wedding is over.

Weekend Crafting Inspiration: Paper Boxes

Happy weekend and welcome to my first weekend crafting post!  For my first entry, I decided to choose this project because 1) it is super easy and 2) I think it’s really versatile and can be used/modified in many ways.  I also like that it includes baking AND crafting, two of my favorite things right now!

A Much-Needed Update

Well here I am, finally checking in with my blog…a few whole MONTHS since the debut of my new website and my last post.  I sort of feel like I’m in trouble at school and I need to explain myself, so here goes.

Earlier this year, shortly after I began the process of designing my website with the great guys at 2BlokesDesign, I discovered that I was pregnant with my second child.  It wasn’t a total surprise, as my husband and I really want another child and this was most definitely planned.  Yet this pregnancy has almost completely turned my life upside down.  Come to find out, I was pretty darn functional when I was pregnant the first time.   I worked the entire pregnancy and actually did SEVEN weddings at Elliston during my eighth month.  (And they were great weddings, big belly and all!)  This pregnancy, however, has been the complete opposite of functional.  I’ve been sick, exhausted and otherwise a big hot mess from the very beginning.  I just passed the six-month mark and all the while, my biggest full-time job is still as a stay-at-home mom to a rather active two-and-a-half-year-old.

So, to make a long story even longer, we finished the website in May and since then I’ve been forced to slow down a bit.  Many of the things I was working on to establish my new business have been moved to the back burner so I can take care of myself, my family and this new addition we’re bringing into the world.  And at the end of the day, I have to stay grateful for that.  That’s why I included the quote above.  Some days, the only thing I accomplish is taking my daughter to the park to play.  And while that task seems so little, it really isn’t.  She’s growing so much every day and before I know it, we won’t have whole days together because she’ll be in pre-school, then elementary school, junior high, high school and then off to college.  The little things have really become the big things, I guess.

Having said all this, I have been working still and I wanted to give a quick update.

~     Last month, I attended an intense 3-day business workshop in Southern California called Fight Club (I know, maybe not wise for a pregnant woman to participate in something labeled Fight Club!).  But it was so completely worth it!  The workshop was put on Jeff Jochum and his company TeamX.Biz, as well as Showit, the platform and service I use for my website. Jeff’s program is really geared toward photographers, but he and the others in the group were gracious enough to let me sit in.  I really cannot even come up with words to describe how great and beneficial this was for me!  I learned so much from him about why I want to do weddings and I’ve already made a few small changes to my website, with many more ideas on the horizon.  If you’re a wedding professional, especially a photographer, I HIGHLY suggest looking into Jeff’s workshops and coaching services.  Oh, and did I mention the entire 3 days were taped, broadcast live online and watched by hundreds of people?  Definitely a lesson on stepping outside of your comfort zone to better yourself and your business!

~     I recently turned 39 and decided to spend the last year of my thirties doing a 365 Days of Gratitude project, posting a picture every day of something I’m grateful for on both Instagram and my personal profile on Facebook.  Feel free to follow my journey at @kmeinhardt.

~     Nesting has already set in, so I’m DIY-ing like a crazy woman!  I’ve got many projects that I’ve either completed or I’m in the process of completing so I decided to feature one on the blog every Friday, beginning this week.  Figured we could all use a little weekend crafting inspiration!  And I’m still obsessed with Pinterest…follow me here if you are too!

Everything happens at the right time.  I’m grateful for all the blessings in my life and while my business has taken somewhat of a back seat, inside I’m raring to go.  Any last minute weddings for this year are unfortunately out of the question, as I’m a stickler about making sure that I can be completely available and present for the couples I work with and that just isn’t possible right now.  That has been a tough pill to swallow, but necessary to accept.  2013 will be a different story, both personally and professionally, and I can’t wait!

Welcome!

Hello and welcome to my newly designed blog!

A little about myself…I am foremost a wife to my amazing and supportive husband David and mother to my beautiful and lively two-year old daughter, Danielle.  Although most of the content on this blog is to support my professional world, if you follow me you’ll most likely see snippets of them throughout my conversations.  They are my life.

After wife and mom, I am the owner and event planner behind Kristy Meinhardt Weddings & Special Events.  I started my company in late 2011 after years of earning badges as an event coordinator for a winery in California’s Livermore Valley.  As with many planners, I first realized a passion for weddings while planning my own in 2008.  Unsure if I was just crazy in love or truly wanting to pursue this newfound passion (or BOTH!), I sought out opportunities to test the waters.  Years later – along with a little education from the ACPWC and tons of on the job training alphabetizing escort cards, fluffing trains and pinning boutonnières – I’m happy to say I still love every detail that goes into planning a wedding or other special event!

I intend to use this blog as a place to feature not only insights into the things I’m working on, but also tips for planning events, DIY how-tos and overall inspiration for weddings, events and life in general.  It’s my hope that you find the information helpful and inspiring.

If I can be of assistance for any event that you’re in the process of planning or can answer any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Thank you for visiting my site!

How Pinterest Inspires Me

I don’t know what the folks over in the Pinterest promotions department are doing, but whatever it is…it’s working!  It seems that the site has exploded just in the last month and having mentioned that I’m a Pinterest addict on FaceBook multiple times, I have received many questions from family and friends over the past few weeks.  What is it?  Why should I join?  How do I join?  I requested an invite, but I haven’t heard back.  Etc, etc.

Wedding Card & Keepsake Boxes

Before I get into today’s post, I want to share a few exciting things that I’ve been working on.  First, I finally got off my bootie and finished a FaceBook page for KMW!  You can now become a fan of Kristy Meinhardt Weddings (and I hope that you will!) by clicking HERE!

In other exciting news, I started 2012 off with a bang professionally by meeting one of my mentors and inspirations, Preston Bailey, at a book signing during the Wedding Faire Santa Clara.  Unfortunately, I could not attend any of the workshops for professionals that weekend so I did not hear Preston speak, but he did sign my copy of his latest book Flowers and I got this lovely picture to mark the occasion!  This is me, in total awe…
